Welcome to Day 17

Happy Friday! New here? This is day 17 of our 30-Day Podcast Challenge. Catch up on any tips and join our Slack channel.

Today's Idea

If you're considering spending money to grow your podcast, do these things...

So far, every Challenge tip has focused on marketing your show for free. But if you have even a few hundred dollars to spend, it can make a difference.

Choose 1 paid channel to test and set a modest budget. Track what happens so you can decide whether to repeat, adjust, or abandon it.

Suggestions for Implementation

Need more details on the suggestions below? Click the button at the bottom for more info.

  • Advertise in podcast apps. Apps like Pocket Casts, Overcast, and Player FM offer opportunities to place your show in front of active podcast listeners.
  • Use beehiiv’s paid recommendations to grow your podcast newsletter. Choose how much you’ll pay for each verified subscriber referred by a relevant publication — you’re only charged after they subscribe and open an email, so no fake / dead leads. Since newsletter subscribers won’t automatically become podcast listeners, create a welcome email that introduces the show and directs them to a great episode.
  • Buy promo reads through Introcast. Introcast lets hosts record short, personal recommendations for other shows.
  • Advertise in podcast newsletters. Find newsletters covering podcast discovery, your show’s genre, or your topic. Reach out to learn about ad rates.
  • Run one controlled test. Start with one channel, one message, one landing page, and a defined budget.
  • Measure quality, not quantity. 10 new listeners who finish an episode and come back for more are probably worth more than 100 empty clicks.
