Today's Action

Build a small research panel for your podcast.

Instead of surveying your entire audience every time you have a question, invite a small group of engaged listeners to give you occasional feedback. You’ll have a reliable group to consult as you make decisions about your show.

Invite 5-10 listeners to join your podcast’s informal research panel / community.

Suggestions for Implementation

  • Decide what participation means. Keep the commitment light and consistent: one open-ended question per month, one 15-minute chat per quarter, one poll per episode.
  • Invite people who already engage. Start with people who reply to emails, attend events, leave comments, or regularly share episodes.
  • Create a community of helpers. If your panel is open to it, bring them into a community space where they can interact with each other, share thoughts, and over time, become friends / colleagues.
  • Incentivize participation. For example: if a panelist participates consistently, send them merch.
  • Make the invitation specific. “I’m putting together a small group of listeners who occasionally give feedback. Would you be open to answering 1-2 questions each month?”
  • Include different levels of audience. Longtime fans, newbies, occasional listeners, and if possible, someone from the audience you’re still trying to reach.
  • Track who opts in and what you learn. With beehiiv’s survey tools, you can collect information from subscribers and organize their responses for future outreach.
